What an amazing organization. I think I have been shooting for them going on 7 years now. This is one of those organization that I believe should be a model for most charities. Their modo of “we don’t give a hand out, we give a hand up” says it all. They start with job training for those in difficult situations whether it be past imprisonment, homelessness or just lost they help these participants first find jobs. Once fully and gainfully employed they move on (if they are ready) to the life skills program. This program is intense and not for wimps or fakers. The program covers everything from good parenting, budgeting, taxes, healthy nutrition and saving. At the end of the program Step Up matches what they have saved dollar per dollar to be used as a down payment on a new home or perhaps a vehicle purchase. And now they have started a teen program in addition to their adult and children’s program. These graduations always inspire me in what these individuals have overcome and accomplished. Most of us HOPE to achieve what these folks achieve in the course of a year.
