What a great day at White Memorial. I am always amazed when I visit one of this church’s events. This church tries to make sure they have something for everyone and is always reaching out to the community. One of its proudest creations in my opinion is Step Up Ministries. If you don’t know about them you need to check them out. http://www.stepupministry.org They give people a second chance at changing their lives. They also serve as a hub to these people to other great charities and organizations in the community such as Wheels for Hope which you see below where a participant is receiving her first car which was hard-earned. And as they say, they don’t give a hand out, but a hand up. They teach life skills that so many don’t receive growing up. Skills such as budgeting, interviewing skills, how to be a good and viable employee, parenting skills and SO much more. For the children of these participants they also go through the program. Those in charge of the children’s program not only help them with their homework, teach them those SAME life skills as the parents but even go as far as meeting with teachers on the parents and child’s behalf’s when needed. These children receive so much love and support it is inspiring. And lastly the young adult program. Teenagers are TOUGH. I haven’t gotten there yet but I have gotten glimpses of what it’s going to be like and I’m personally not looking forward to it. But somehow Melvin the coordinator for this program has a gift with this group. Helping them navigate the tough waters of young adulthood. Please consider giving to this organization. It has a PROVEN track record and have one of the lowest rates of recidivism I have ever seen. They have very high standards for their participants and so many come back to give back to this organization feeling they are truly part of the Step Up Family.
